Larry Medwetsky graduated with a B.S. in Abnormal Psychology from McGill University in Montreal, Canada in 1977 and obtained his M.S. in Audiology (also at McGill University) in 1979.  Dr. Medwetsky subsequently worked as an educational audiologist at Mackay Centre in Montreal from 1979 -1984.  Seeking to increase his knowledge in his field, he returned to academia and obtained his Ph.D in Hearing & Speech Science in 1994 from the Graduate Center, City University of New York.

In 1992, Dr. Medwetsky became the Director of Audiology at Rochester Hearing & Speech Center in Rochester, NY and was later promoted to the position of Vice-President of Clinic Services; Dr. Medwetsky worked at this multi-purpose facility for 20 years.  In 2012,                Dr. Medwetsky joined the Department of Hearing, Speech, and Language Services at Gallaudet University as a faculty member in the Doctoral Audiology program, and in 2016 Dr. Medwetsky became Chair of the department.  Dr. Medwetsky has also served as Interim Clinic Director since June 2017.

Dr. Medwetsky has greatly enjoyed working with his fellow faculty and teaching the many wonderful students who have chosen to come to Gallaudet University.  As Clinic Director,       Dr. Medwetsky is especially proud of the exceptional staff and their commitment to addressing clients’ communicative goals and expectations.

Professional interests: Central auditory processing, speech perception, acoustic phonetics, educational audiology, and pediatric and adult auditory (re)habilitation.

Outside interests: Dr. Medwetsky enjoys weightlifting, skating, bicycling, reading, and playing guitar.  In the past few years, he has become consumed with watching every new Hallmark Channel movie that comes out. His greatest joy is his family and he is truly proud of all of his sons’ accomplishments and the wonderful individuals they have become.
